Types and Selection Methods of Sewing Needles

The sewing machine needle is one of the most basic accessories in garment processing enterprises, and it needs to be replaced every day or even a few hours. However, even this small needle is very knowledgeable when it is selected. Improper selection of the needle will cause damage to the fabric or frequent needle breakage and jumper.

At present, the sewing machine needles sold on the market mainly include German blue lion machine needles and Japanese organ machine needles. There are many types of machine needles, and the main factors to be distinguished when selecting machine needles are the following three points:

1. Device Type

The blue lion machine needle shown above is an example, in which the word "UY 128" indicates that this machine needle is suitable for embedding and clamping machines. The corresponding needle type of the flat sewing machine is "DB 1", the overlock sewing machine is "DC 1", the buttonhole machine is "DO 5", the flat buckle nailing machine is "TQ 1", and the vertical buckle nailing machine is "TQ 7". In addition, there are many different types of machines corresponding to the type of needle, in short, the selection of machine needles should first be selected according to the type of sewing equipment.

2. tip shape

The second factor in the selection of the needle is the shape of the needle tip, and the needle tip models of different brands are different. Generally, woven thick fabrics choose sharp needles, knitted fabrics choose round needles, and the larger the knitted mesh, the larger the round head, so as to avoid hooking. The needle tip of the Japanese organ machine needle is the following method:

(1) S round head, small round head, suitable for light and thin fabrics with high count;

(2) J round head, ordinary small round head, slightly larger than S round head, applied to ordinary fabrics, the needle is 1/10 of the thickness of the needle rod;

(3) Q round head, special small round head, is the organ needle, the smallest round needle, suitable for sewing and embroidery;

(4) B round head, medium round head and needle are 1/5 of the thickness of needle rod, suitable for low count knitted fabrics;

(5) U round head, big round head, needle is 1/3 of the needle bar thickness, suitable for mesh fabric sewing;

(6) Y round head, extra large round head, needle is 1/2 of the needle bar thickness, suitable for sewing special knitted fabrics with large mesh.

In addition to the pointed and round needle tip, there are some special needle tip shapes such as: straight cutting knife (LL) and oblique cutting knife (LR) needle tip, suitable for sewing leather goods, you can cut out the needle hole on the fabric. As shown in the following figure:

3. Pin No.

Even on the same sewing equipment, different fabrics should be sewn with different needles. Practical experience tells us: thin fabric selection of needle number is small, thick fabric selection of needle number. This is mainly because different needle sizes represent different needle lengths and diameters. Thick fabrics require longer and thicker needles, while thin fabrics require thinner and shorter needles.
